This unique and historic ballpoint pen made from reclaimed certified wood from seats installed at the old Yankee Stadium, That was the home of the New York Yankees Major League Baseball team from 1923 to 2008. Hand turned by me in my own workshop.
The wood was obtained from seats installed in 1923 and removed in 1973, the wood from this seat has seen its share of historic events at this ball park including all the games Babe Ruth played at Yankee Stadium. The wooden blank I used to make this pen is shown in the pictures, and is now over 100 years old.
Interestingly as the pen was being made on the lathe, in my workshop, some of the original paint was stripped off in layers showing a green base layer a light blue middle layer then the final darker blue top coat. I have included a picture (centre) of this alongside some images of a similar seat sold at auction a number of years ago (outside images). You can clearly see from the chipped paint on the auctioned seat, a green base layer, then a middle blue layer followed by a top finish darker blue. The wood supplier in the USA is highly reputable and one of the leading suppliers of genuine historic wood for pen making. A certificate of authenticity, provided by the supplier, will be included with the pen (see pictures).
The metal pen parts are obtained from a UK provider, renowned worldwide for supplying premium pen parts for woodturners. The ballpoint pen is a twist action finial mechanism and can be supplied with black or blue ink. The fittings are in premium quality Gold and Gunmetal. This is an expensive and exclusive pen due to its historic value hence I wanted to use the highest quality pen parts in its construction.
Yankee Stadium:
Known as "The House That Ruth Built," the original Yankee Stadium opened on April 18, 1923, with Babe Ruth christening it with a home run in its first game. For 85 unforgettable years, it was the crown jewel of baseball, hosting 26 World Series, countless historic moments, and legends like Ruth, Gehrig, DiMaggio, and Mantle. The stadium’s iconic wooden seats, installed in 1923, bore witness to history—from Lou Gehrig’s emotional farewell speech to Don Larsen’s perfect game and Reggie Jackson’s three-homer World Series night. When the stadium closed in 2008, these seats became cherished relics of baseball’s golden age. Now, you can own a piece of this legacy. This handcrafted wood-turned pen is made from an original 1923 Yankee Stadium seat—carrying the spirit of baseball’s greatest cathedral in every stroke.
