The body of this pen is hand turned by me from genuine Cocobolo wood, a tropical hardwood of the Dalbergia genus, known as one of the most beautiful and prized of the true rosewoods. A History of Rarity and Value: Hailing from the dry forests of Central America, primarily Panama, Costa Rica, and Nicaragua, Cocobolo has a history as a highly valued material. Its densityโso high that it will often sink in waterโmade it a coveted wood for fine work. For over a century, it has been a top choice for luxury items like fine cutlery handles, musical instruments (especially guitars, oboes, and clarinets), and intricate inlay work. Its slow growth and popularity have led to heavy exploitation over time, making large pieces extremely rare today. As a result, Cocobolo is now listed as a CITES Appendix II species, which regulates its trade to ensure its survival.
Owning a piece of Cocobolo is truly owning a piece of the tropical rainforest's natural, protected heritage. The heartwood boasts a rich, kaleidoscopic palette that ranges from deep orange and reddish-brown to chocolate brown, often woven with dramatic, irregular streaks of black, purple, or gold. The wood is naturally rich in oils, giving it a beautiful, lustrous, mirror-like sheen without the need for heavy artificial finishes. This natural oil also lends the pen a distinctive, pleasant floral or spicy aroma.
Modern Hexagon Design The pen is finished with a striking hexagon-style cap, offering a contemporary edge to the natural form. This six-sided design is not only visually bold but also highly practical, ensuring your pen remains securely on your desk without rolling away. The faceted cap pairs perfectly with the smooth, comfortable turned barrel, creating an executive-level piece that feels substantial and perfectly balanced in the hand.
