London Plane wood, from the hardy urban tree, is a beautiful, light-colored hardwood prized for its distinctive, decorative "lacewood" figure (ray flecks) when quarter-sawn, used for fine furniture, veneers, and turned objects. It's similar to maple but with a unique pinkish-tan to reddish-brown hue, offering good strength and texture for aesthetic woodworking projects.

While London plane trees are widely planted in cities due to their resilience to pollution, the wood itself is not commonly harvested for the timber industry. Most available London plane timber is repurposed from felled urban trees, which provides a sustainable source for woodworkers in the UK.
