This exquisite writing instrument is made from richly patterned Thuya Burr wood. The wood is hand-turned by the shop owner, before hand pairing with high-quality, precision-engineered metal components purchased from the renowned UK supplier, Beaufort Ink. This is the actual pen you will receive. Fitted with ink reservoir for use with bottled ink and can also use international short cartridges, one included.

Thuya burr is a highly figured burl, nearly always sourced from the root burl of the tree. The figure features mesmerising, interlocked, and irregular grain with distinctive, perfectly round clusters of small knots called "eyes," similar to bird's-eye maple but generally darker and more pronounced.

The colour ranges from lustrous golden brown to orangish/reddish brown, with darker streaks that can be nearly black. The color tends to darken as the wood ages.
Thuya burr wood has a very distinct, pleasant, and highly aromatic smell. It has a pronounced cedar-like scent with hints of pine and spice, often described as smelling like an old pencil sharpener when cut or sanded.

It is difficult to work with as it is brittle and prone to tear-out and cracking when worked with tools due to the highly figured, swirled, and irregular grain structure. It is not recommended for novice woodworkers.

This pen is protected with a hard-wearing melamine sealant and a final coat of polished wax, this pen feels incredibly smooth in the hand and resists everyday wear.
