Hand Turned Wooden Ballpoint Pen - Laburnum

Hand turned twist action ballpoint pen. Made from Laburnum, with gunmetal fittings, slimline fancy pen type. Finished in wax and polished shellac. Laburnum is widely planted as an ornamental tree throughout Europe. It sometimes goes by the name “Golden Chain,” so named for its vertical rows of yellowish gold flowers that bloom in the spring. Because of the tree’s small size, Laburnum is likely to remain available only on a small hobbyist scale. Laburnum is primarily only available within its natural range in Europe. Laburnum wood is highly valued in woodturning due to its density, durability, and attractive appearance. Its rich, dark brown heartwood contrasts beautifully with the pale sapwood, and intricate grain patterns make it ideal for pen making. Despite its density and hardness, laburnum wood is generally considered easy to work with, taking fine detail well and producing a smooth finish. This wood species is not listed in the CITES Appendices or on the IUCN Red List of Threatened Species. This pen is a classic example of laburnum pen making with lovely contrasting grain patterns with a wide range of colours and contrasting tones particularly at the writing end of this pen.
